Well as Pooh Bear would say it was a Blustery Winter Day at Lake Michigan today. FYI...The tall building in the background to the right of the picture is the John Hancock building in Chicago.

I hunted anyway and I could not believe all the screws I was finding.

Hunting a beach is sure different, but very fun and easy if you have a sand scoop sifter.
I hunted for 5 hours and paid parking $11.00. It was worth it though.

Well anyway on with the story... I got a real faint signal and I thought what the heck just dig it anyhow and see what it is, because some of my quarter and dime tones sounded faint and I dug them any way. I get down to 12", the signal is still in the hole then at about a 1-1/2' I hit metal. I thought this must be something to turn on the water or something like that, because it was big and round and to my surprise after digging around and wiping away the sand it turns out to be a 50lb Sports Authority weight for a weight bench, then about 4' furhter I find a 5lb weight. I also found some other things if you would like to read on after the pictures.

I also managed to recover these items as well:
* 7-Quarters
* 7-Dimes
* 4-Nickles
* 16-Pennies
* 1-9MM Shell Casing
* 1-Butterfly Pendant (Not real silver)
* 1-Childs bracelot. ( I think it may be made of bronze or some other metalic substance)
* Bunch of crap@#$%# Sorry I don't really cuss, it's just fun to put those symbols up.

I also dug down just shy 1'' from being a 2' foot deep hole to discover some kind of metal grate. I figured I already found one big object and that was enough for me. Didn't want to haul another big object home.

All in all it was a very fun and rewarding day.

Thanks for looking and enjoy.

LOL, that's funny! Weights, but where is the weightlifter? He might be under there somewhere, keep digging! LOL

The bracelet looks like an old ID bracelet. Is there anything engraved on the plate? It may have been silver plated originally. Silver plate comes off fairly easily when buried for several years. Then what's left is the copper or brass that was overlaid with the silver. It's a nice find.

TreausreTales, there is no visible engraving on the bracelot.
As far as the weight lifter, he may have already deteriorated. :-\

Just a thought but the grate might be from the past partys grilling. I have used similair in the past and it works great. No pun intended. ::)

It's usually a good thing when you finish a hunt with a weighted-down pouch, but maybe not in this case LOL :)

BD,

North Ave, neat. ;D

I just started going there last year.
Hit it about 4-5 times

Found bunch of neat stuff, one gold ring ;D

Beat the parking. You can park in the beach lot
until about 7:30 am, (I was getting there about 5:30 am),
without paying(leave prior to employee getting there).

Also, paking around the zoo is available
for free early in the morning. Only about a 2 block walk
through the park; you can detect as you go ;D

have a good un............

Wow, glad you didn't get weighted down with all your finds. LOL,

HH, Ringinder

$11.00 to park at a frozen, off-season beach?!?

I guess Chicago still has some gangsters. ;)

Good hunting.

So you haul was meager, at least you were out there having fun. You could have been helping me move sofas and recliners all day long at LA Z BOY. I wish I was there with you finding the rest of the iron weights
HH

No BigAl,
I wish I was living back up in Colorado where you are.
I love the mountains. I would be hitting those Ghost Towns and doing some Gold Prospecting.

Sherman: You guessed right, I was at the North Ave. Exit.

Ringfinder and Twincapes, you guys crack me up.

Ed Dekalb: Dumbell???? Who you calling dumbbell, you Dekalber... ;D

Oh Charlie, the Maufia, is still alive and kicking.

Thanks for your comments.

Ok I exchanged my biggest find ever for $5.50
Play It Again Sports is in the business of buying back those heavy weights for .10 a pound at 55lbs. that will pay for me some new batteries.

Nice finds, lucky you could sell that weight. $11.00 for parking, ouch! HH, Mike

And i thought muscle beach was on the west coast.Maybe it washed up from there. ;)

Cool tale there BullDurham! 8) Neat to see you got some cashback fer them old weights too. Wondering how old (rare) they may be if ya researched 'em? Also, it goes to PROVE AGAIN, that you NEVER know what you will find out there. ;D

Let the Adventures continue...

Cool stuff. I like how that weight turned into $5.50. :)

Beach hunting is fun - I just never find anything there.

Great finds and that plate is pretty funny ;D
