This is a plastic garden hand shovel about ten inches long. I drilled the holes in it.
This little this digger is used more than the metal hand digger. Yes, the soil has to be kind of soft and more or less rock free. It works great in tot lots.
What I like about it is that I can use my pro pointer in the shovel looking for the small stuff. The holes in it let the loose sandy dirt fall threw.
For a couple of bucks (at wally world), it is a nice addition to the war on pull tabs.
