I got to slip out for a bit yesterday evening and was hunting the back yard of one of my neighbors up the street. There were prior homesteads in the same location and and it's produced a few goodies before. Among a bunch of scattered brass lamp parts and old mason jar lids if found my first Barber Half Dollar!!!!

I guess this proves even findings one in the worst possible condition still feels good. This one was in among a bunch of burnt stuff and had a bunch of black stuff on it and is badly warped. The back side as you can see took the brunt of the heat.

Definitely in a fire. VERY COOL! Grats to ya and thanks for posting.

Congrats Icewing!

That one has certainly been in a fire, but still counts as a silver half dollar. Most people just find the regular, unburnt ones. That one is extra special!

Very well done sir.

Congratualtions on the nice find! :occasion14:

No matter what condition it's still beautiful, congratulations on an awesome find!

Hey a burnt Barber half is better than no Barber half. My only Peace Dollar was in a fire. I did the boiling water, foil and baking soda cleaning method, on it and it came out way better than it was when dug.

Wow nice score, this thing had a painful life! Did it ring up funny because of the fire damage?

Beggers can't be choosy or at least they used to not be. it started out as a nice shiny barber half as they all did, it just took the really hard road to you. I'd take it in a heart beat! congrats:headbang:

You can say that its a 'toasted' barber!

Awesome, Congrats and HH!

A half with a great story!

Yes the tone was a bit erratic and sounded like the rest of the junk I had been digging, which just lead me to digging more junk, but with an even more hopeful smile.

Sure makes me want to dig more junk and I wasn't even there!

Love it! Its been years since i dug a silver half. Congratulations are in order.

Beauty ! 1 of my favorite coins :occasion14:

If you ran one of everything you'd like to find under any metal detector you could account for every tone it can make. So why not?

Its not in bad condition....it just has a lot of character! Some of my favorite finds are dripping with "character". Seriously...very nice find. Congrats.

Expecting junk and get a Barber half. Had to be a jaw dropper. Congratulations.

Too bad it got torched, but a Barber half is always a great find- Congrats!
