So I got a box of nickels today and I am very happy with that I found

1941 x3
1942 x2
1943
1944
1946 x2
1947 x3
1948
1949
1951
1953
1955 x3
1957 x5
1958 x4
1959 x3

1 Canadian

So not bad 4 silver. I understand the pre 1960 are more valuable but guessing for collectors only? Some reading shows 1960-1964 are collectable also anyone know for sure?

Also found a 1972 very shinny nickel any way to tell if it is a proof? Or are the proofs any more rare then the normals?

Not all 1942 nickels are silver. Do they have the big mintmark on the back? If they do they are silver, if they don't they are not. Personally I dont keep anything after 1950.

Thanks for the info. Just checked them, 1 has a P and other has nothing. Still got 3 I'm happy

3 silver is good from one box. I haven't searched any nickels yet this month, maybe I'll get some for this weekend. My half boxes lately have really stunk.

That is a very nice box of nickles!

Some dates to look for are 1938,39 D and S , 42-45 with mint mark on the back (war nickles) and 2009's and any other coin that fills a hole in a book.. Im sure others can add to the keepers
