These plus another dime I have soaking in a bit of water to clean it up are my front and back yard finds. Does anyone know what that thing on the left is. It looks kinda like a gun hammer to me but I dunno. Thanks.

Looks like a hammer off of a gun to me.

a day without pull tabs is like a day without sunshine.

Oh I found some garbage too. Like a nail and a crushed can. I think one of the thing in the pic is part of a binder. Anyway, I'm no expert on guns is there a way to tell if the thing that looks like a hammer is from a real gun or a toy?

I think the think on the left is part of a BMX bike hand brake. Let me see if I can find a pic for comparison.

There are tons of variations of BMX bike brakes. I think yours is probably from the 80s. I grew up racing BMX bikes ... 1999 NJ State Champion. Woo-hoo for me!

I dunno, this is a solid piece of metal

It is a little bigger than the coin beside it, so it isnt a bike hand brake piece...It does look like a hammer of a gun of some sort but real or a toy who knows. Clean it off best you can and see if it is stamped with anything..

If I had to make a wild guess..Id say hammer off a small 22cal revolver, or something else small 25cal maybe...

I have a 5gal. bucket full of odd parts I have found like that, and I still do not know why im keeping them...LOL

Should I just soak it in water to clean or what?

My daughter and went down to the local park for little bit and this stuff and a little garbage. I'm a little excited about the heart, I think it has a marking but it faded.

NJHunter,
Soak the metal hammer to a revolver in an oil (3in1, penetrating oil, etc.) as these will be somewhat stronger than olive oil and should help with the rust that should be there if it is the hammer to a real firearm. I would leave it there for a week or two and then take a tooth brush to it, not your own though. It should clean up after a good soaking and you should be able to tell if it is a cast metal part or a machined part. If it is a rough cast part then it comes from a toy, if it is machined steel then it comes from a firearm and I think it is as the dime is not much smaller than the part and it seems a bit too intricate for a cap pistol hammer................63bkpkr

Nice finds. It is a hammer of an old cap gun.

WTG, Keep Digging!!

Thanks for the help I think I have some 3in1 oil.
