Hey everybody. I returned to the farm that I always talk about after work today. Hunted for about 60 minutes, slowly and methodically covering the whole field that’s available to me.
I found a simple brass buckle pretty early on, and then not much until the last 10 minutes when I got a pretty low signal on the XP Deus (a 90, repeatable and not too deep). Expected it to be a modern/wheat penny, but I was very pleased when this popped out! From the size I guessed it was not a US large cent, and hoped it was British.
When I got it home and cleaned it (thank you again Andre’s pencils) the bust of King George the 2nd came through clearly.
With a little research I learned about “young head” vs “old head” KG2’s, and I’m confident this is a Young Head (1729-1739).
But the Britannia side is pretty toasted, and where the date would be is clearly warn away (the coin is only 26.5mm in diameter and should be 28mm), so I’ll never get a clear date.
Still, this is my first KG2 (I had found a KG1 and KG3 but not the one in between - until now!)
