My first Large cent. (182? Marton Head) {Added pics}

Found this with my old GTI2500 last year. I finally got around to taking pictures of it.

This coin was so heavily encased with grit and corrosion, that it may have been ruined even before I "cleaned" it.

I know it's nearly impossible to see with these camera shots but I can cleary make out 182 but the last number I am unsure of. At one point during "cleaning" I saw (or at least thought I saw) that it was a 4.

It is my first and only LC I have ever found. It is also the oldest coin I have ever found.

yah...never clean coins what ever you cant get off with a Light rub under some water should be left. Coins are valued by the detail still on the coin so the dirt wouldn't hurt the value any. because you could have a nice no dirt coin with crappy detail almost warn away and it wouldn't be worth anymore than a dirty one with the same detail. STILL GREAT FIND!!!!!

Congrats on the large cent. They clean up great with the peroxide if they aren't too corroded. If you have corrosion, however, it tends to flake off like you described.
