Had to miss work (and pay) to take the wife to the doctor today about 50 miles up the road. Lunch wasn't what I had hoped for since we had to find something bland following her procedure. Sure had my heart set on a great burger at a spot close by famous for 'em. Damitol. Anyway, we stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home to pick up a few things and for some reason, while I was self-checking out, I thought about a Coinstar. Living in a small town with only one across the river at a grocery store about 3 miles away, I don't get a chance to check them out as often as I would like. I didn't even know if they had one here, so I finished and started looking around and there one sat in the returns area. "Probably be empty," I thought as I walked that way. A few feet away, I could see two coins in the reject spot. I pulled them out with absolutely zero expectations, saw this and surprisingly kept a decent poker face, snapped a picture and texted it to my son, who replied, "Are you kidding me??!!"

Sure made up for sitting in the waiting room all morning.

Taa Daa. Bet you walked away with a smile.

Nicely done! Still waiting for my first score...

wow!

is that first year of mintage? 1859?

One hundred and fifty nine years.... basically, in circulation... destined for your collection!

thumbs up!

You lucky dog! And 1st year issue!! At least you didn't have to deal with ground corrosion on that one. Congrats!!!

Nice find! That thing has been in a tumbler. Maybe a detectorist who did not realize it was in with his clad? His loss is your gain!

Hah! Nicely done. 🙌

...That thing has been in a tumbler...

Really? I don't much know what a tumbled coin should look like, but I did think the high-point wear looked different from what I'm used to seeing. You have to wonder how it happened to wind up where it did, and for me to come bumbling up when I did. Thanks for your comment.
