Two weeks ago I dug my first barber quarter at this spot in western Washington. I went back today and o my gosh. 15 feet from the barber. I still can't believe this. An 1882 s morgan dollar. I am so thankful for a beutiful bucket lister.

That's an interesting find. Silver should come out of the ground and be silver colored.

I also noticed that there appears to be rust on it, which makes me think this is not a sliver Morgan at all but possibly a counterfeit.

Silver turns black when it reacts with sulfur in the air or the ground. If an iron object is touching a silver object, the iron rust can adhere to the silver. So darkening and rust can happen to authentic silver coins. I suspect silver dollars are seldom found because they are so big that dropping them would make a noise and finding a dropped one immediately would be quite easy. Congratulations on yours!

Awesome find! Was that dug in saltwater? I have dug some old silver coins from saltwater beaches with that same grey tone. Congrats!

I found 8 of them once in a plastic bag inside a vacant falling down home

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Yes i live in on the hood canal in western wa. Alot of my hunting is focused on logging camps private homesteads. Everything was done by water, (salt water) no roads back then. Check out the mosquito fleet. some storms moved alot of sand and rocks and exposed additional pilings. My first barber quater came off this site 2 weeks ago, I'm gonna hunt it out. Thanks you

I hunt mostly around salt water in western wa. I follow the logging history. The rust color was a huge iron something sitting on the coin. It's legit. It's possible to remove the oxidation from the coin but it's not worth it to me. I don't want to damage the coin. It's perfect how it is. Thank you
