Hi folks!

We got moved up here last Friday and I finally had a bit of time yesterday to take my Silver uMax out for its first hunt in Washington state. I found an old vacant lot where a house used to sit and figured it might hold some goodies.

The very first signal turned out to be a pretty cruddy looking but a very welcomed 1944 Mercury dime!! The rest of the finds were a 1988 Canadian penny, several zincs, a clad nickel, and about 7 hot wheels cars, the most I've ever found at one site. I still have quite a bit more area to detect there so I'm saving it for later this week.

Here's a pic of the dime.

Re: My first silver comes out of Washington

Yeah Ray. Way to start. I'm moving back to the Wash next year, and can't wait to see what I find there. HH

Thanks folks. Yes, it is a good start. Lots of towns with lots of history close by to check out for detecting.

Dred, do you know whereabouts you'll be moving to here in Washington?

Re: My first silver comes out of Washington

I got to go back to the same spot for an hour today...got a few more obligatory zincs, a clad quarter, and then this big button comes out in the penny range. Looked kind of old, and in good shape, but I'm not a button kind of guy and was wondering if some of you button experts out there can help me ID this one. I didn't want to clean it too hard so I ran it through warm water and a very, very light toothbrush rub just to get some dirt off.

The button is about 3/16 larger in diameter than a quarter, has a nice detailed eagle on the front with possible letters on the banner but I can't make it out without further cleaning. The back has some writing but all I can make out so far is A.MYERS and INC.

Any suggestions for cleaning it without doing any damage? Should I keep on with the soft toothbrush or peroxide it?

Thanks.

Ray

us military button --- the great seal type -- in use since 1902 * back mark / maker best way to date it .

humm there was a S A Myers button maker in richmond va during the civil war I think , maybe they survived and made this button later on?

nice job on the oldies! You will find that house sites are more productive then parks. At least thats what I have found when hunting my uncles early 1800 home. If you ever want to meet up, me and JuJu would be glad to hunt with you!

Thanks for the ID Ivan!

I don't find too many buttons so I have to refer any button finds to the good folks here.
