My first time CRing. Need some advice.

There is a post for new people up at the top in the "stickies" section that has a lot of great info- great place to start

Man it feels like only yesterday someone said this, "Someone really should make a post for beginners that will answer most of their questions or give them enough hints that they can learn where to do some research on the net. Oh wait a second! http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coin-roll-hunting/29389-beginners-guide-coin-roll-hunting-terms.html". Oh yeah! It was me, and it was only yesterday!

He joined today so he may not have seen that. Im not saying to answer all his questions but you could point him in the right way like the first poster did. No need for all the sarcasm. I'm sure that gives him a great first impression of our community. OP, just take it slow and you will learn fast my friend.

Since he joined today, he should have done like responsible members of the past did, and read several pages back, explore the stickied posts, and done just a little bit of research on the site. The sarcasm was intended and the impression was as well, if the OP or any other new member is not going to respect those that came before and do the bare minimum of research that we did before making a silly post. This has been bubbling up quite a bit, over the last 2 weeks especially. It seems like not any of the new members are taking any time at all to read anything about the site, and just feel like jumping in with the first question that pops in their mind. 9 times out of 10 that question is the same one asked by the last newbie the day before. I am all for helping people out with ideas, just as long as they show some initiative that they did some previous research. Otherwise, it is just a skipping record. I am happy that there are new people coming to the site and joining, because the more people we have, the more that new ideas and finds can be shared and enjoyed, but please, people can't just come here and expect everything to be handed to them. I know that this post is probably going to get removed, and I am probably going to get suspended for it, but it had to be said. if any new people get to read this post, please show respect to the site by doing some research first, before you ask a question.

Being fairly new myself- not gonna lie I was so intrigued by this hobby and finding this site I did exactly what Wilmington has stated- I read multiple pages of posts- found the newbie post in the stickies thread and did some reading- then asked the questions to what I couldn't find- I know for me it was just a fascination with a new hobby that I found and wanted to read as much as I could about it!

I will second what Iamrussell said...

If you cant even put an hour or two worth of reading through the forum ... why bother lol...

Who's to say they didn't. They respect the pros on here and want to ask them a question. Take it as a dang compliment. Ill just answer them when I'm around now. I don't mind. We need to give these guys a good impression. Sure, send them to the stickies but not in the way that you did.

Hi everyone... I'm a new member to this site and I cannot wait to get chastised by someone who has been a member here since this past September..... Thank you for the warm welcome and can't wait for our future interactions as peers on this forum....

See that is the problem Backbacon, those of us that have been here since September of last year are the old timers (including yourself), because the majority of those that frequent this section of the boards have left for the same reasons. They got fed up with very little of the new posters taking the time to read past posts and do research and left to other sites that have a more experienced crowd. Maybe 6-7 months is the time frame to move on. I was hoping it wasn't.

I left a while ago because at the time it seemed like everyone was arguing with someone about something stupid and like 80% of the members posting were newbies. I like reading the posts more from the experienced veterans opposed to the newbies.

Also I was only like a 4 month old member, and I felt like a veteran compared to everyone else. A lot of the older veterans started to slowly drift away. People were getting banned and suspended for just arguing all the time, and a lot of these people were the veterans. It seems like most of that has gone away now, and I am thankful for that. :)

Maybe it's the Canuck in me.... Be nice, please don't go out of your way to yip at a new member? Send a link? Give some encouraging words?

Im pretty sure it would be easiest on the new members if we all just gave them part of our silver . This way they dont need to read, date search, dump, or get their hands dirty.

And otherwise, some of the 2012 members, like me, were hunting long before they joined up. So we're definitely "veterans", but not by joinup date.

Someone coming and asking what to do, is definitely not a veteran.

Hello all! I am new to CR'ing. And I would just like some quick tips:

For example:

Which Denomination would you guys reccommend starting with? Why?

And what to look for?

Please and thank you everyone.

I like hunting dimes, nickels, and cents.

The dimes are nice because the silver edges are easy to spot and I rarely get skunked on full box.

Nickels are cheap and you'll always find something worth saving. Keep an eye out for silver "war" nickels and the occasional buffalo or V nickel. I've also been told to hold on to pre-1960s but I'm still not sure why.

Cents are really cheap $25 a box and you'll find all sorts of strange things. I only keep wheat cents but lots of guys look for error coins as well.

I've never had much luck with halves or quarters but halves are supposedly the most productive.

Good luck.

PS. Don't call cents "pennies" or these guys will really tear into you.

Good point. I read a lot before I started. Some may miss the Beginner's guide, since it is the first thing there (my eyes mute out the stickies).
