Nice marsupial! Watch those teeth - they're like needles & they have a jaw that works like a vise-grip!!

It is really Opossum not possum it is a very common mistake, but both works.

Didelphimorphia is the order of common opossums of the Western Hemisphere. Opossums probably diverged from the basic South American marsupials in the late Cretaceous or early Paleocene. A sister group is Paucituberculata (shrew opossums). They are commonly also called possums, though that term is also applied to Australian fauna of the suborder Phalangeriformes. The Virginia Opossum is the original animal named opossum. The word comes from Algonquian wapathemwa.

Cute little feller.

Keep @ it and HH!!

I lived in Maine for ten years and found a really good possum recipe:

1. Get your largest stockpot and put a big rock in the bottom.
2. Fill it halfway with water.
3. Add the possum and boil for 5 hours.
4. Drain , refill and boil for 5 more hours.
5. Drain , Throw away the possum.
6. Eat the rock.

Didn't even know the ex moved to LA. learn sumpin every day.

Cool find. Now just reach right in and get him. :icon_jokercolor: Just the other day, I rescued 2 of them from the dumpster at work. I got a piece of twine and made it into a lasso and pulled them out. No way was I getting my hands near those jaws.

We called animal control and they caught him by the foot and pulled him out. They were going to take him to a nearby Nature Park to release him because they are a protected species.

What state do you live in? Protected species? Tree rats, fence rats, big ugly moles, whatever you call them, but definately not a protected species. They're pretty common everywhere.

Possums are game animals in most states and as such are protected. Killing one without a hunting license or out of season can be considered poaching
BTW, they are not a member of the rodent or the mole family- they are a marsupial

MUD, I think we all know it's Opossum. That's why I spelled it 'possum to show it was the vernacular.
