About 1 year ago, my parents informed me that they would be selling a property that has been in my family since 1902. It's a historic site in New Jersey, which used to be a tavern back in the 1700's (the street is named after the house). The house has a lot of sentimental value for me, but the taxes are just too much for my parents to bear.
Last year, I set upon a quest to take a piece of history with me before the house was sold. I knew nothing about metal detecting, but I've always been a bit of a "treasure hunter" (Indiana Jones is my hero). I joined the forums, and learned as much as I could about the hobby. I purchased a Ace 250 to try out, and began finding coins. I upgraded to a CTX 3030 by June of last year, and I've found many wonderful things.
Today was my last day hunting, because the house will be sold to the new owner. I embarked on one last hunt around the barn, and was pleased to find a nice handful of coins on the roadside of the barn. Of note was a 1896 Barber Dime and a 1912 Wheat penny. It was like the property gave me a gift before it said goodbye.
Bye, Hickory Tavern. You've been a part of our family for over 100 years. I'll miss you!
