Thanks for the info VPNavy, I didn't realize they were so similar. I knew when we pulled it out it was going to be something great and when we cleaned it I was surprised to see it is in perfect condition, which is amazing to me considering it's been in the ground for 70 years.

The difference is the design of the eagle (looks left). I have found that the Army and Air Force have a different (eagle) face but your find is a little to fuzzy to see the difference.
 

is that a old meal kit fork ? it looks like one my Gpa had.

Great find, congrats to your mom! I found a possibly identical insignia. Thanks for the images vpnavy. Mine measures around 14mm. How about your moms?
