My oldest Coin Yet

Got out my 1878 plat book tonight and found a nice house site down the road from me. So I figured I would head down and give it a shot. When I arrive, I notice there are holes dug everywhere! Someone beat me to it. I decide I would give it a try anyway. As soon as I stepped off the chuck wagon I found an arrow head, so I figured I was in luck. I combed the area hard, not finding much. Between two holes of the other peoples holes I get a nice 26 signal on the nox. I dig down and pop this out. 1852 one cent. In great condition to me! Super stoked about it. The last one cent I found had a darn hole in it and you wouldn’t make any of it out. I’ll take it

My problem with what the other people were doing is, it’s a bean field. And when they would get an iron object, say an old barn stake, they would just leave it next to the hole. I picked up allot of their iron. It seems they were only out for the good stuff. I think it’s all good. I dug a really nice axe head too, and some odd looking tools and stuff.

People who dig junk and leave it there like that usually don't plan on returning to the site for further detecting....they cherry pick and move on. But them doing that leaves you a site that still has potential if you keep removing the iron.
