Went out with a couple buddies to a new (old) spot in the hill towns, very long history and stretches of beautiful woods. Didn't do well in the first couple hours, despite covering lots of ground. Then we decided to move a little bit to an old road that we knew had some cellar holes, and ended up stumbling across what looked like a pretty big old estate. You could still see evidence of old landscaping around the foundations and walls, even though everything was all way overgrown.

Mike found a largie not too long in, and then an Indian Head, plus some assorted relics, but we were running out of time so I moved up onto the old road to start heading out. Right on the edge of the road I got a strong but not great signal on the Deus, but decided to dig it up since I was just waiting anyway. So glad I did! 1809 dime, my oldest US silver by 25 years.

I knew it has some nice details, when I took it home and carefully brushed it off I could see she had some bumps and bruises from 200 years on the road. Totally psyched to have beaten my previous record! Can't wait to get back when some of the vegetation dies off.

Very nice . Post a pic of the reverse .

Huge congrats on a Huge score! 🙌

That is a magnificent find.
An 1809 capped bust dime graded AG3 by PCGS is listed as a $575. coin.
Your dime may have some bumps and bruises, but I think it has a much higher grade than AG3.
Congratulations

That is a beautiful coin find and in great shape for the years it’s been in the ground. Congrats

We had a nice morning, and a great hunt! That’s a fantastic coin, congratulations! We’re in big trouble however when Joe gets back on the leader board!

That makes me want to go hit an old permission site and pound it!!

Beautiful old dime recovery! :occasion14:

That is one sweet dime! Excellent detail on the obverse. Hopefully the reverse looks just as good. Congratulations on the find.

Great condition!

Thanks everyone, still can’t believe I found it, it’s been kind of a slow silver season so far. Now I need to find a quarter like HessianHunter! Here’s a picture of the back:

First off great find Cheffer.........

This guy should easily grade Fine+ but not quite VF. Absolutely fantastic 209 year old piece of silver.

Gorgeous cheffed. I know the feeling I found my first 1837 Capped Bust Half Dime (holed) last month. It still hasn’t made it in my display case yet. It’s right where it supposed to be for now on my nightstand next to my bed it’s the first thing I see when I wake up. Enjoy your treasure my friend
