Dman & I hunted a Cumberland River picket site in the woods today. I had dug some .69 cal. 3 ringers, 6 lb. cannonball frags, lead case shot balls, & pistol bullets on a few previous hunts. Today, Doug hunted with me. He dug the cannon shaped relic that has 1/4 in. or so wall thickness & 6.5 " long. I dug the long copper piece that is hollow on one end but has a closed end as as shown. We are as lost as 2 hogs in tall weeds-LOL. Any ideas? Thanks, Q.

The bottom one is called a boxing, that is in the center of a wooden buggy or wagon hub. It is fit dead center in the middle of the hub, in a tapered hole, and the little
ears keep it from turning in the wood. The spindle on the iron axel fits through the cannon shaped boxing, then melted babbit is then poured into the hub as a bearing,
making for a tighter fit, and then they used a very thick stringy grease. This is before ball or roller bearings.
