Yesterday I dug up this small clip in the woods bordering my yard. I have recovered several coins from about 1900-1920 in this same general vicinity. The rivet on the back of the clip is divided into four sections. One section contains a star and the others the company initials. It is stamped S. M. Co. in the other three quadrants. I believe the initials stand for Southeastern Metals Company, but I am not positive. I know this company made some equipment (e.g., canteens) for soldiers, but I do know know what this clip goes to. Does anyone have any idea from what I may be a clip, what period it may be from and am I correct on the company? Thanks!!

I've considered that, but I keep looking for some military connection. But it definitely could be a garter clip.
