Hello,

My friend found this coin and it seems to be a counterfeit copper 1827 dime, except the size doesn't match. It's 32 mm. and 10 gr.

My first idea was a 50 c., but it really seems to be written 10 c.

Any guesses?

huh, now that's interesting. If no one can figure it out here, I can post it on a coin chat forum later for some input

Being 32mm and 10 grams sure is interesting! That's the size of a half, but obviously underweight so counterfeit... but I also see "10 c." on the back like you do. There is some crud in the "1", so maybe it is a "5". Those half dollars had lettered edges too. Perhaps if its a good counterfeit it will also have the lettered edge which should read "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR". My guess is its a counterfeit half if its 32mm and it has some oxidation in the "5" that makes it look like a "1" or it was from casting or something.

Kool Find! There are people that collect these if you're interested. Look on the net. Congrats....Hogge. It's in great shape. Usually they are highly pitted and in bad shape.

Wow,the designs throughout that coin really match a real one,and a heck of a lot of workmanship to produce it.

That's a sweet find. I like the counterfeit coins better than the real deal, as they were made to deceive!

Agreed counterfeit 50c. One of the best examples I've seen. Must be of a collectable grade & worth something, probably more than the real deal - nice. (not that I would sell it) Find another!

I found one of those as well 2 years ago. Very cool. Some people helped me a lot with all of the info about it. Email the pics to the guys at Contemporary Counterfeit capped Bust Half Dollar Club. Yes... Such a club exists. Their website is Contemporary Counterfeit Capped Bust Half Collectors Club. When I emailed them, they got right back to me. I hope they help you out. Nice half!

Best counterfeit coin example I've seen. I would send it to the folks that Rubka888 recommends. Would love to hear what they come back with. Congrats on a great find!
