I need help iding to pieces of iron that were found on an undeveloped piece of land out in a very rural area that hosted a battle during the War for Southern Independence. As noted, it has been untouched since the war and indeed right where i found these two pieces there was located a line of artillery. The were located in a wooded area about 50 yards in from a field...no houses or developments anywhere close to this area. This picture shows a piece of iron that boggles me...it is very heavy and somewhat large. The second image shows another piece that was found in the same area and looks as if it took numerous hits from minie balls...but that is just my observation. If you could help me out i would be greatful for any comments.

From what I can see of the objects in the pictures it appears that you have found some pieces of IRON SLAG...from an iron working operation of some kind... blacksmith forge or attempt at "fieldcasting" cannonballs, etc.
