Mystery object

Found this about 4" down in a farm field that dates back to mid 1800s. Had a bit of water inside but has since dried out. Looks like it could be gold plated and there's some small, loose material inside. I'm lost on this one. Hopefully someone here has come across one of these before. Thanks for looking

Looks like an old mourning locket or good luck amulet.

Would agree with Laffite, mourning locket that contained a picture or prayer, altough it's pretty thick. Nice find!

I agree with Red James cash. Compass case. Maybe a kid toy.

Compas makes more sense after seeing it. Was too thick to be a mourning locket. Good work mister cash.
