National Firearms Act...

This is the problem. Title II has been in place for a very long time and heavily regulates the market on assault weapons (and other qualifying firearms/accessories). The problem is that politicians in recent years have successfully duped much of the public into thinking the weapons available on the normal market today are NFA weapons. The result? Well we have uneducated people up in arms over an issue that doesn't exist.

Hmmm... INTERESTING!

I was debating gun bans with a guy and he insisted anyone could buy an M16 within a couple of hours at any store. I clarified that he meant a fully automatic weapon, and then I told him I'd give him $1,000 plus the price of the gun if he could legally buy one within 3 months. He very kindly started to make fun of me and told me to be ready to pay up. I've asked him a few times since where my new gun is but I think he finally realized that he couldn't get one in less than 6 months and they cost over $20,000. Needless to say he now understands that AR15s are NOT the same as an M16. I'm not sure though, he won't talk about guns anymore.

I think most everyone is fairly familiar with the difference between fully automatic / burst compared to semi automatic. I think the only confusion is that a fairly identical "looking" weapon can have diff firing capabilities.

picker...........I know most of us on this board know the difference but the general public HAS NO IDEA! If Feinstein calls something an assault weapon, dammit, that's what it is!! There are millions out there with eyelids of wool.

I don't disagree. I think both sides of the debate use a massive amount of hyperbole, deception and misdirection to try and make their points. The debate has been one of emotion on both sides and not of fact or logic. It's too bad.

And I don't think it's the eyelids if wool. Realize for a lot of folks gun rights is not high on the priority list and many are unfamiliar with guns. I think the best thing for the gun rights movement is to educate people in a respectful manner as opposed to an insulting one. Hostility breeds hostility, an angry stance gets an angry reaction. Nothing wrong with having great passion must always temper that passion with respect and dignity for others.

Just my 2 cents.

I see TWO different issues here... 2nd Amendment Right, BoR, U.S. Constitution; AND! WHAT is an ASSAULT WEAPON. I DO NOT see the 2nd under "removal"; I DO see the FEDS trying to classify what an ASSAULT Weapon is under previous US Guns Laws... AWB, NFA, Brady Bill, etc.; to revise & UPDATE per recent events (input from the ppl, they serve). I think the 2nd Amendment is a NON-ISSUE. MHO; AMERICAN PATRIOT... (BECAUSE I CAN!).
