I spent a few hours today hunting in a soon to be park that's been bulldozed. Coins were sparse, I did find a few clad and a 1919 wheatback. I got a big signal that I dug for and came up with a lead (I think) ship at about 7 inches. It looks like a part of the bow has been broken off, but I like the find a lot. I have a thing for sailing ships anyway. I'm going to give it a light coat of flat black paint and display it somewhere around the house. I don't have any idea how old/new this might be, but there are no man. marks or dates of any kind. It's pretty heavy, it might have been half of a book end. Anyway, I thought it was neat enough to post a picture. Happy hunting.

That's a cool ship. Personally, I don't really think its neccessary to paint it- it looks great just the way it is.

It's not everyday that someone finds a spanish galleon with their metal detector. Now that's something to brag about! Maybe you should enter it in WET best finds - 2004. LOL

Fueller, My dad had a set of those book ends from when he was a kid in the 1920's or early 1930's. It was supposed to be the Santa Maria. Nice find, and I agree, don't paint it, it looks great the way it is....Lance

That is way cool. Like the others are saying, NO PAINT! Looks awesome the way it is and will definately make a great addition to any room in your house.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did not paint the ship. Better judgement prevailed. I'm happy to know the approximate age now, and I'll consider it a replica of the Santa Maria. That area did not produce much else, howerer as mentioned in the post I did find a 1910 wheatback not too far away, so maybe I'll give it another go. There's always something else in the ground if you look hard enough.

Happy hunting

Rings and coins

I discovered my 3rd ring this year
and it was a silver one too, I read I Eastern and western treasures
You can clean coins with a dremal tool or any small rotory tool you a soft wire brush bit for it,It should work good on crusted and blackend coins and other finds

This sunday I be at old Encato Park with a fellow treasure hunter
he's got a Bounty Hunter from radio shack

In my book any brand of Metal detector can find coin Etc is a good 1 :o
