A friend of mine brought this coin/token to me today in hopes that I knew what it was. After about an hour and a half searching the net, couldnt find anything. He said that some friends of his were drilling a well and claimed that this came out of a 10ft hole that they were digging. I'm sure it wasnt that deep. Probably within the first or second foot perhaps. Dunno.. anyways, i'm hoping that you coin guru's out there can help me out with an id. Took pictures the best I could in the lighting/camera that I have. Looks and feels to be bronze or copper. I think bronze but I could be wrong. Obverse has a bearded man with a crown on his head. Date is unreadable. Its easy to jump to the conclusion of 1721 by the naked eye. The reverse has a ship sailing to the left as you can see in the pics. There is a die crack on both sides with one having no bearing on the other. Lets hope these pics work out.

I wouldn't have a clue, but I think it is really really cool looking.

Sorry, gents, but I don't recognize this one. The ruffled lace collar in the obverse portrait looks c.1600's rather than 1700's, while the ship on the reverse is more reminiscent of the late 18th or early 19th century. My gut feeling is that this is just a modern era (20th century) concoction rather than a reasonably faithful representation of any genuine coin— and of course I could be totally wrong! ;)

Looks to me to probably be some type of modern gaming piece.

It does look neat tho! :)

Oh wow.... Here I am, still looking for a pic of another one. Well, if you dont know it PBK, then I may never know. Perhaps I should offer him a few bucks for the thing just to add to the "odd coin" bin. Who knows, it could be worth somthing. Thanks for the input PBK.

Dharmacy.....I dont think its too modern. It was burried pretty good. Its a little heavier than a quarter too. Its driving me nuts not being able to get an id on it....fake or not.

I think your friends are pulling your leg, it doesn't look to ever have been buried in the ground. ::)

Sorry, but I don't think this thing is old. I think the well drillers were having some fun with your buddy.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

That’s a modern toy pirate coin. This one said to be from pirate's treasure box sold at Barnes & Noble:
