Need advice on how to Trouble shoot fisher search coil

Hi, Any help is appreciated......I have a Fisher CZ5 with a Fisher coil. When I turn the detector on it emits a steady sound...when I removed the coil the detector and turn the detector on it checks the battery and appears to act normal (silent). Can you advise me if this is evidence of a bad search coil? Thanks for any assistance., Don

Are you in an area of high EMI? Powerlines, indoors (power bricks from lots of accessories in the house etc)?

Try in a open area free from electronic/electrical perhaps?

Thanks for replying GrantT. I ordered a small Fisher coil. I'm betting that the old coil is the problem. If that's not the problem I'll try to find a reliable repair shop to have it checked out and replace a broken disc potentiometer. Thanks again, Don
