Detector(s) used
White's DFX
I'm in Cocoa Beach for the week for spring training on my softball team. I've been trying to detedt on the beach, but I am not getting any signals. I've noticed other people detecting on the same beach and they are finding targets on a pretty regular basis so I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong. I am new to this machine and am still learning about it. Any tips or help would be appreciated!! Thanks all!

Well you should be getting some kind of signals. I used a DFX on the same beach until the salt air got the best of it. It did great. Are you using the beach program? If you try to ground balance it most likely won’t, mine didn’t and just goes to a preset. Try setting it on the coin mode. Maybe I will see you out there this week sometime.
Good luck

Yeah I couldn't get it to ground balance either....I found a beach program this morning that I am going to try and hopegully that will give me more luck! Today is our only day off from playing so Im hoping to get some quality MDing time on the beach today! Thanks for you help!

Hey...... forgive me for i am new here, but what exactly does salt air and water do to a dfx, :coffee2: or any md?

Well salt and electronics don’t go well together. I guess it would depend on the machine you are using and how well sealed it is. At the beach on rough days the saltwater mist is very fine, and finds its way onto the circuit boards and contacts. My DFX lasted about three years in those conditions. Just don’t get the control box in the water. I see a lot of people use plastic bags and such for a little more protection.
I was a bit surprised to see all the corrosion in my DFX when I opened it up.
I bought a waterproof detector so now I won’t have to worry about getting it wet or being caught in the rain. And hopefully it will last a bit longer.

If your not real careful it makes it a very expensive paper weight...........Salt water spray is very damaging when it comes to electronics.. It will find a way in.... Remember it's not salt air, it's salt water moisture in the air..

oahh i see, guess we will be extra careful with our dfx 300, but i gotta take it to the beach with us. im dying to find a ring, necklace, or bracelett

Good luck, just be very careful. The majority of the good jewelry is found in the still wet sand and most in the water. I have found a few rings in dry sand, but probably 90% of my beach finds are in the water knee to chest deep..............
