I found this one walking the Arkansas river on 11/23/08, it is a little different so any help would be great.
It is 2-1/4" long and 7/8" wide, it has a small arch to it and is mostly smooth on the inside of the arch, except for
small pressure flaking around tip edge and the corners of haft area of this side.
The other side has a long flake down the lenght starting just past the halfing and is then worked down the sides
fairly steep to sharp edges and tip. The hafting is small like you might see on corner tang knifes, and corner
notched at a small angle. Is this a attempt at a corner tang knife or point or just one that didn't work out right.

It's a uniface knife. The base is crooked because it's a knife and not a projectile point. In other words knives don't have to be symmetrical.

Where are you in Oklahoma? I am in Sand Springs, built up on both sides of the river! They are finding all kinds of artifacts along the river here. Several Buffalo skulls, bison bones and a couple of tusks. Monty

Nice knife!
It appears to me that the notched stem is somewhat undersized for such a large blade and is also slightly offset. I have seen similar specimens and they were thought to be a type of base tang knife.

Base tang is my initial gut feeling as well. Razor

Thanks everyone for all the help.
I got out my overstreet and looked at waller knifes in gulf coastal section
and there was one real close to this one.
I know it is unlikely to have traveled from FL.
Thanks again for the info.
I hunt from Tulsa, downstream on the Arkansas river.

AHA! I thought as much. There have been several really neat finds in the general area lately. I haven't had a chance to get out and look lately but I use to roam the river bottom when I was a youngster and found a lot of neat stuff. Didn't think much about it then but now wish I had kept them. Monty
