This was found in woods just a few feet from a pre- CW B&Burnham button.

Immediately I thought it was a bridal rosette but upon closer inspection of the back of it,

their is only the remnant of what looks like a single post coming from the center. I included

the B&Burnham button I found in the picture as well as a quarter for size reference.

It is also 2 pieces, unlike any rosette I've seen. If you look closely at the obverse picture you can see where it is dented on the edge

and tell that it's a 2 piece

Screw back brooch... perhaps lapel or hat.

Im thinking later Victorian costume jewelry. Which was much better made than today's costume jewelry. Probably had a gold wash plating when new. I'm with what Double A, RC says of it's intentional design. Something pretty and made to be noticed.

It's the top of an Edwardian hat pin. Circa 1900.

Great relic find, even better now that you have an I.D. for your piece.

Its not a pin.

As the OP stated... its TWO pieces.

Well, it's not a pin anymore. The pin is broken off.

He means two pieces like a "two piece button" or two pieces put together. Do a search on Victorian or Edwardian hat pin and look at the pictures. Many of the tops are made from two (or more) pieces.

Wellllll... I stated it was probably a hat pin.... screw back though...

BECAUSE... if you look at the OPs picture 1... it is in fact 2 separate pieces.

AND the OP stated such.

PS... I was leaning more towards a tack rosette originally because of this.

Not taking sides in this but the two items you show in the picture you re-posted are two separate finds. The small one is a button found near the large one. The OP stated that the larger item was two piece because you could see the seam near the dent in the back picture. I can see where you are coming from with "2-pieces" as the OP stated but he also said it was a "2-piece" item.

Nice save. Quick ID. Congrats to both of you.

Wow! I think you may have nailed it DC Matt. It certainly does look like it. I appreciate all of the attention this piece garnered. I am including another picture to clear up any confusion about it being 2 pieces.

Not sure how much these hat pin tops could weigh but this piece weighs a full ounce. A few of these in your hat and it wouldn't go anywhere on a windy day...lol
