Need help identifying this

This is my first post, so I hope this works. I found this while detecting on an old homesite on some family land in south central Mississippi. I have found a couple of confederate buttons in the same area, so I know the homesites are fairly old. Any ideas what the heck this is?

hmmmm.... buckle ornament? whatever it is, I like it!!! with the two tabs on the side, i would lean toward a bridle ornament or something like that for a horse... NICE FIND!!!

Thanks, Chiz. I guess it could be a bridle ornament of some kind. I didn't have a clue!!

Looks to me like it clipped on top of something, possibly a top to a small snuff box or a compact of some type. The bridle ornaments I have found or seen pictures of have heavier attachments in back and are usually solid or filled with lead. This looks to fragile. Whatever it is...it is nice.
