Need help locating a privvy

Can anyone give some advice on how to locate a privy? I was fortunate to find an old site with some old coins and buttons. So, is there a certain side of the house it would be on? How do I locate it, how deep do I have to dig? Any information from start to finish would be great!

Hello Don,

Did you notice the thread just south of yours?

You're gonna need a probe & do lots of probing. Some of the pits in eastern Pennsylvania can be pretty deep, especially in the urban centers.

get a 6ft probe,ballbering on the end . now walk 20 feet or so to the right of the property .look for deprecation in the ground and if the probe gos in real eazy
