Need help on IDing this.

My friend recently dug this. I believe it's a school medal/medallion but a veteran detectorist said it is a 1910s watch fob. What is it? How old would you speculate it to be?

Just a guess, but some high schools would put something similar to that on the end of the tassel on the graduation cap.
