I can't find a medal like yours listed in my books.It could be a field artillery watch fob.

Downindixie pretty much nailed it. It's a watch fob, probably c. 1898-1918; however, the insignia is that of the Coast Artillery:

That's a cool find- I'm envious! We had the Coast Artillery here on St. Simons Island during the Spanish-American War, I think.
