Found this ring about 30 ft from the edge of a cellar hole that had occupants from 1840 -1960. It gave a nice 9/10 vdi on the Equinox which is usually a tombac button or 22 lead bullet. It looked like a silver signet ring, but the vdi should have been like 24/26. Rinsed off, no rubbing needed as it cleaned off like gold or silver. Has a gun metal finish, thought it might be platinum, but it’s magnetic???? If this was a beach find I’d think it’s simply a tungsten or stainless steel or titanium modern ring, but nothing truly modern coming out of this site. I’m stumped.

Maybe it's made by the same process as the iron Wishing Pillar in Delhi, India that is over 1,600 years old and never rusts!

I’m thinking that may be a homemade ring out of a Hex Nut. Possibly from a high school shop class project. If you look on YouTube there’s many examples. Here’s one.

Thx for the solve Dan! Never heard of making a ring from a nut, but think your theory is correct. The image you attached has the same style and sheen, it’s magnetic, no corrosion so probably from a stainless steel nut. Maybe a steel worker made this for his wife in the 50’s and dropped it in the yard.
