Need help with interesting object

I found this item detecting in a river in an old mill town. Is it an early camera lens? Or part of a telescope? Thank you for the help - Justin

It looks like it could be a lens from a daguerreotype camera but those were typically made out of brass. Can you tell what the metal is and also post measurements?

I think it's to big for a microscope. The dimensions are 3.5 long by 2.5 wide. And I'm pretty sure it's brass or copper.
