Need help with Japanese writing on sword blade.

I think it was made in the spring... third character from the bottom.
I know that doesn't really help at all, but I'll try to find more. Seems to be a machine made blade with stamped signature (is that right, anyone?) which isn't impossible to find information on.

It does have that look of a not so tempered blade, but are there any additional markings on the tang, under the stuff on the handle?

I didn't look under the old foam and tape on the tang, but this was all that was visible to me.

i am sitting here with my Japanese daughter in law...it says from top to bottom "now old exist god offering spirit warrior" which i know isn't the "meaning" of the Kanji. you have to be able to read some of those as compound characters and it is very hard to do on an item like this.

Kanji is hard to read in ANY case. But it is definitely roll stamped and not chiseled. It probably translates to something like "This sword is a gift of gods and will make it's wielder a spirit warrior" it's safe to say at it's a fantasy piece.
