It doesn't have any markings that I can see.It does have an unusual red paint and lead or silver color covering it .The place it was found is aprox. 3 miles from the Battle Of Okeechobee site.A major battle in the first seminole indian war .Around 1835 or 1837 .

That is most deffinitely a Cavalry Sabre......

Why it has a resemblence of paint on it and it being sharpened on both ends is that it may have been used by some ol' timer years as a machette. I have seen old antiques used like throw away tools many time in the past. For instance, after my grandfather died, my Mother and Step Father went to Colorado to see what they can get and bring back (ooooh the greed!). One of the items brought back was his base camp flag poles that marked the different levels of a mountian when you climbed it. This was the summit pole from Mount Fuji when he was in the Marines back in the 50's. What happened to this wonderful piece of history you may ask? Did I inherit it? Nope, it was used as a lock in the track of our sliding glass door. Absolutely disgusting. Nothing makes me madder than people's apathetic ignorance and lack of respect for history!! >:(
