Need help with this objects identity = What could it be?
Found near the Hotchkiss shell fuse I collected earlier this year and posted( as identified by the cannonballguy.)
It has a larger hole at the bottom end.

It appears to be an old valve stem.

What does the other end look like inside?

I just found one last week. It is what I thought it was. An old valve stem. I found this one in an old swim area where I found my first gold this year. It has the valve stem cover on it still. Sorry it wasn't civil war related like you wanted.
