Boy, I've seen this kind of thing before. Now to remember where. I think on old plumbing pumps and valves. You might try looking for pics for these.

I think smokey is on to something. I think it may be part of a pump. Like a sump style pump maybe?

Was this found near an older telephone office? Looks to me, as I remember, a piece from recording equipment used thru early 70s. You recorded your voice with recordings such as, I'm sorry the number you have reach has been disconnected. etc. etc. Don't know tech name of equipment or I would look it up. Thanks for sharing.

All I know is this community is from the early 1800's and I know it did have a post office at one time.
