Need I.D. Help with two medals

These two medals were found with a detector. I don't have a clue as to what they were for. Both have patent dates after the Civil War.
Medal #1, pat. date Nov. 20, 1888.
Medal #2, pat. date Dec. 29, 1868.

#1 is from a badge of the Sons of Union Veterans, an organization for male descendants of Union veterans of the Civil War:

#2 is an identification tag. These were sold in stores and catalogs, and stamped with the individual's name and address (usually just city & state). Although many do date from the 1800's, the same design was made and sold well into the 20th century. Here's an ad from the late 1920's, showing a similar tag:
