I'n no gemstone expert, but from the inclusions in that one it looks like it could possibly be amber. The pink stones are probably saphire. NIce ring!

I owned a beadshop for a while... and I'm thinking that ring is rather new, and the center stone is goldstone.

Here's a link for another goldstone item (just the first easy one that came up when I googled):

http://www.texasrockshop.com/images.../Buckles 0904/BK091 Goldstone belt buckle.jpg

We used to make glass beads, and we had some rod that was goldstone - so as far as I know - I don't think there is actually a goldstone "stone" ... but instead it's glass with some copper flecks in it.

As for the side stones, I'd bet they're amethyst.

It's a cool ring - but probably not worth a whole bunch.

I just went and found another goldstone link:

http://www.artbeads.com/r-gldst-ov8.html

Hope this helps....

Still a very cool find!

Did a little reading on sunstone characteristics and I think that might be it. Burnt orange variety.

Of course Sally may have something with the goldstone.., will check into that too. Given the location and depth, I'd expect this to be from the 70-80's.

Side stones are definitely amethyst. I find it on the beaches here all the time.

Definately not sunstone, they are native to Oregon and I have dug many. Just a hunch, but its probably man made.
