Need Some Buckle Help

Hello All. Found this buckle near a 1910 homesite on Thanksgiving. I am pretty sure that it is tack related. There are no markings and it appears to be made of copper. HH and thanks for your input.

It is a buckle shield (aka: buckle cover, buckle guard). There was a recent lengthy discussion on the net about them not too long ago. I will see if I can find the link.

Post Civil War to today .. they are still in manufacture.
