Need some help in ID'ng Outhouse Location on Site

Good Morning everyone, this is the semopreacher, my usual nitch is metal detecting, and arrowhead hunting, but we have an opportunity to go to an old, old, site where noone has been before, so far, most likely from the late 1800's to early 1900's. It is located in a field, one way in and one way out, we have permission to dig, even the outhouse, but what I need is some information on how to locate an outhouse, where there is no physical proof of its place. What kind of tools would I use to probe? What can I expect to find? Any help would be good. Thanks, Semopreacher.

SemoPreacher,

1. 30 to 50' from the house (cellar hole).

2. unusually downwind (prevailing wind) from the house.

3. In the back of the house or sides.

4. level terrain not up or down a bank.

5. Any paving stones? they could lead you to it.

6. slight depression of the ground?

Try for a slight rise in signal over a 4' - 5' Sq. area, use all metal mode with audable threshold. You could find anything from junk to the family cache worth a small fortune! Have fun. Joe

P.S. - Don't break the bottles when you are digging.

Look for old lilacs, honeysuckle bushes, or roses that would screen the location

Grass will be greener in a circle at the location
