Need yall's advice - lookin' for a new machine

I'm in the market for a new detector - used to be a 1266-X guy, but now I'm ready to join the 21st century... I've had my eye on a Minelab, but honestly I have no clue what new technology is out there now... mainly look for silver coins/jewelry... I've hunted long enough to know any detector will do but just want something a little more modern that will tell me more than what I've been used to...

Any opinions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

GOOD LUCK on your next machine . Im up in the air between a MXT /GMT or Goldbug pro , the GBP is very light its funny. Im wondering which one will find gold viens in rocks ? Which one ground ballences faster for longer period of time ?

There are a lot of factors to take into account when it comes to buying a new detector, weight, type of hunting you intend to do, and price to name but a few, but what ever you choose it will involve the learning curve of that said machine. I remember my last change to a new machine...frustrating to say the least, our type of detecting here is a lot different to yours, recovery speed and sensitivity take prefrence over depth, as most detecting is done on ploughed fields.

The Minelabs do well here, as do the XP models, the Explorer11 is still a great machine, but the weight is to much for me, but I would have one if they were lighter, Xp Dues gets rave reviews, but a high price tag, although they do seem to be coming down in price, but I think they are laws over there about the high frequency they use. What ever you decide good luck, and be patient with your new toy:icon_thumright:

Hey Robert,
As someone already said it depends on what type of detecting your doing and price range...
But as a personal preference I recommend Tesoro...
Their excellent detectors, made in the USA and have a lifetime warranty...
Tesoro has outstanding customer service and their affordable too...
There's no doubt if its in the ground a Tesoro will find it...

If it were in my budget I would get the Minelab Etrac or Explorer SE for a coin only machine. They both are excellent machines for coins. I mainly hunt civil war relics so the machines that I use do just fine on coins for me. But if I were to be looking for a good silver coin machine then the Minelabs would be the choice for me.

If you have an open budget look at a Minelab. Now there will be a learning curve to mastering the machine but it does produce. The E-trac or CTX3030 would keep you busy. A Fisher F75 is also a good choice; easier to learn but good for coin/relic hunting. Going down in price but still a solid machine would be the AT Pro. Check with Metal Detecting Stuff located in Spring Texas; just north of Houston (they are a supporting vendor on this site). Both Wayne and Doug are experienced Detectorist who have hands on time on most all of the major detector brands. Since you are located in Austin, you could take a drive and have your new detector in your hands the same day.
