i think its a netherlands coin but not sure

yep -- just as it says 1977 one cent netherlands --( dutch / holland) they have switched to euros now

Right on. This coin type was minted between 1950 and 1980. Interesting, perhaps, is that there may have been a gap in the minting of Netherlands cents till the Euro Cent was minted in 2002.

I was 2 years out of the service my son was born I broke my elbow and my car was stolen.
