Last Week while I was out metal detecting I got lucky and found this Nevada trade token that has, Pioneer Saloon / J.P. Walker / Chafey Nevada, on one side of it and on the other side of the coin it has Good for One Drink / 12 ½ Ȼ, any help finding out where to research ad find out anyinformation on it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Bill

Thanks Don,
I knew that it is a rare find because the information that I found about Chafey was that the town was not around very long.

Bill:
You may know all this but here goes:
Chafey started as the 'town' of Dun Glen in about 1862 when silver was discovered in the area. During its hayday, it had a couple hundred people, but by 1880 the population was done to about 50 miners. The post office closed in 1894 but in the summer of 1908, Chafey rose on the site of old Dun Glen. Soon a newspaper was established and the town blossomed to over 1,000 inhabitants. But again, in about 1913, mine ops. ceased as did the town. Adobe walls and mill foundations might still be seen.
The town was located 9 miles NE of Mill City.
Don....

rare saloon tokens (with the word saloon on them) do really well on ebay and every where else. but, just because one sold for that doesn't mean the second place bidder has a third place bidder waiting to bid that high. meaning the next one will sell more near what the third place bidder was willing to pay. now, consider condition and this could throw reason to the wind either direction. i don't know about civil war, hard times tokens, or many other areas of exomnia, but in the trade/merchant token arena there are deeper pockets that collect saloon tokens than most areas.

i collect coal and lumber tokens from a few states, not all. condition is not the biggest thing for me. i like knowing it was used and carried by the people of the time. now if lettering is rubbed out, or pitted badly, holed, or otherwise cpoor condition--now that matters.
