Never Thought I'd Find One Of These Colonial Relics!

......a colonial flintlock lock plate! I was detecting at a colonial era homesite today digging every signal, including iron, when I turned this beauty out of the ground. While it is missing the hammer and the flint striker assembly, I am still very happy to have it. You don't often dig iron signals that were even worth the effort of digging the hole to get them out of the ground. It makes digging iron signals look more attractive. Unfortunately this was my only dig worth mentioning for the day. It was very hot and I could not stay at it like I normally can. I sure would love to have the rest of this old rifle. It was likely taken off of a flintlock rifle and converted to the percussion cap system. Thanks for looking/reading!

A couple of nice quality finds! Sometimes it can really pay to dig iron targets!

Very nice find! I hope you plan on preserving it! There is a lot of iron that goes undug, your find proves that it s worth digging at some sites.
