New $50 gold

There they go again. The Gov. can't leave well enough alone. IMO they should have reissued that design as a new nickle with a recessed date and left the Saint-Gaudens American Eagle alone or done the gold reissue of the Indian Head design.

Exactly. In fact, looking back over the last 100 years, hardly any of the U.S. coin designs are as appealing as the ones which they replaced. (A possible exception might be the Peace dollar obverse over the Morgan, although I still prefer the Morgan.) And let's not forget that trivial little switchover from 90% silver to clad in 1964. Before long, when the supermarket checker says, "Paper or plastic?" she'll be asking how you want your change.

Are the ones from the mint graded? The ones on HSN are MS-70 and sold tonight for $1199.99.

For that price, I would spend a little more, go to www.usmint.gov and order 2 PROOFS for $800 ea. I posted in another thread that the site said they are being shipped on July 22nd but when I was browsing around just now, it now says July 6.

I am facing a delema here. Go for it if they are going at 1300 or not take the chance. The one on eBay that just sold is a slabbed Bullion coin and went for north of $900. Think of what an encapsulated US MINT sold proof in a presentation case would sell for.

Should I???? Should I not???

That explanes something. If they are graded, then they must be the regular Bullion coins. The ones sold by the mint are PROOF and won't be released for shipping until Thursday, thus they can't be graded yet. I am not a collector but aren't proof more valuable and desireable than regular Bullion Coins? The coins on the Mint website have a frosted finish to the indian head and the buffalo, there is a mirror finish to the rest of the coin. They are encapsulated and displayed in a velvet like presentation case. Therefore it would seem to me, like I mentioned in my other post you could almost buy 2 proofs for what they are selling one graded bullion coin for.

I know from looking at mint coins in the past, 1oz Proof Eagles tend to go for $800 also. That has seemed to be the common price for proof coins in the past. So, I figure that the same price here is common. Don't think you will find anything at a better price than direct from the mint.

Just went to

http://www.hsn.com/cnt/prod/default.aspx?webp_id=2434682&web_id=2434682&sz=0&sf=co&dept=co0007&cat=co0012&subcat=&gs=&attr=&prev=hp!gs!dept!cat&ocm=

The coins sold out and appear to be the Bullion coins. Definately not the proofs. So, my question still is, for those who are more experienced, are Graded Bullion coins or Proof Coins more valuable???

Graded standard issue vs proof coins? Answer is neither. At least not nowadays. All coin values are based on Rarity and desirability. How many are there and how many want them....

Some proofs are quite rare and desirable, and some regular issues are also. These particular coins are neither. Its a sales gimmick.

Sure alot of people make money off this stuff on e-bay, but it's a real cuthroat market. Brand new issues in mint state 70? Bet yer bottom dollar they're not that rare, and therefore shouldn't command a premium. But people will buy them for sure.

Some of these new issues are going quite high in recent years, most are not. Shows they don't have much real value in the long run.

Its all a risk, decide what is best for you and how much you are willing to risk.

Those home shoping net works are a bunch of Rip offs!!!!!
