new and need help

hello my name is Gary. im 22 years old and i have a dilemma. when my grandfather died i acquired his old piggy bank. which it in itself is a 3 in 50 cal round that's about 2-3 ft tall. and where the bullet is supposed to go there was this round ball. which is about 9.25 in in circumference and weighs about 5lbs i always thought it was a shot put until i dug it out of it today. please help sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. please help me as i would like to know what it possibly is. there are no stamping or visible mold lines.
