I found a new midden area at my dig site. It is full of pottery shards, bone, and mussel shell. The drill is 1 3/8 inches long. Half of a discoidal and a set of deer tine bases. Thanks for viewing.

Nice finds. Can you show the ends of the antlers?
 
Here are some more pics. They look to be sawed off and not for hanging over the mantle. I think they took the tines for flaking tools and this is what was left as from the size of whats left of the base.

Those look to be broken, a method called "score and snap" will leave an angled groove around the outside of the antler.

I agree. These pieces of antler appear simply to be broken, not grooved and snapped off. In the latter case, half of the groove is left (as a bevel) on the broken edge of the antler.

These are the 1st tines i have found. Its been a week now and they are turning white from drying. Thanks for the info/comments. I will post some new/dry pics of them with some new finds.
