Found this yesterday under a tree. Anyone know anything about this item?

Welcome to the site.

Got any clues/information to share? (Such as what country or region of North America.)

An image of the back will be helpful. It looks like a belt buckle with an image of a bobwhite, maybe? Colors (green and "burnt" red on the rim) make me think it might be an alloy with a lot of copper in it.

EDIT: Keeping with a "Hunters Game Bird" scenario maybe a buckle from a hunters vest or pack of some sort?

My guess is...a chicken, French, non-military. Gary

Found in NW Jersey on a site that use to be a hotel from 1892 to 1954cwhen it burnt down. Found it under a huge fallen oak tree.20200723_201728.webp20200723_212520.webp20200723_212520.webp20200723_212520.webp20200723_201728.webp

looks like a watch fob

It looks like half of a sash buckle.

Cool find,,
Welcome to the forum from Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania

Looks like a cock buckle.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to use it

I agree it appears to be a watch fob to me also.

Cool piece, looks like a watch FOB. :dontknow:

I'm with Fullstock, it looks like half of a Sash Buckle. The design, could also be a Pheasant.

Very nice looking piece. The bird appears to be a game bird of sorts. Love the green patina. Leave the patina be, it shows that this piece is old. Congrats to you on a nice save.
